Sustainable Sourcing

At Madera, we take sustainability seriously. Every step of our sourcing process—from plantation management to shipping—is designed to minimize environmental impact and ensure a long-term, renewable supply of high-quality hardwood poles.

Eucalyptus Grandis: A Renewable Resource

The primary timber we use, Eucalyptus Grandis, is a fast-growing hardwood that is highly sustainable when managed responsibly. Sourced from specialized plantations, these trees are cultivated through advanced tree breeding programs that focus on genetic improvement, disease resistance, and optimal growth rates. This ensures that every tree used is replaced through continuous replanting programs, keeping the supply chain carbon-positive and environmentally responsible.

Carbon-Positive Forestry

Our timber plantations sequester more carbon than they emit, making Eucalyptus Grandis an environmentally superior choice. Our manufacturing partners Carbon Sequestration rate is -0.9 tons per 5000 cubic meters (average monthly production), meaning that for every tree harvested, more carbon is absorbed than is released. This offsets emissions generated during harvesting, manufacturing, and transport.

Sustainable Manufacturing & Transport

We work closely with select manufacturing partners, which operates with a strong focus on solar energy and low-carbon production. Our suppliers monthly output averages 5,000 cubic meters, allowing us to meet large-scale demand while maintaining our commitment to sustainability. The manufacturing and transportation processes contribute only 0.09 tons of carbon per 5000 cubic meters, while container transport to FOB Durban adds an almost negligible 0.003 tons. Additionally, all our freight from Durban to Lyttleton is carried out using Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk’s biofuel-powered shipping, making our shipping net-zero in emissions.

Commitment to Reforestation & Long-Term Sustainability

Our suppliers invest in continuous replanting and genetic tree improvement programs to enhance the strength, durability, and resilience of Eucalyptus Grandis. By carefully managing breeding cycles and reforesting harvested areas, we ensure that future generations benefit from a sustainable and self-replenishing timber supply.

Responsible Forestry Stewardship

Sustainability starts at the source. That’s why we’ve chosen our partners for their Forestry Stewardship Program, a leader in responsible timber cultivation. Their plantations, including the Eucalyptus Grandis we use, are managed with a commitment to environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, and long-term sustainability.

Through certified forestry practices, replanting initiatives, and ethical land management, this program ensures that every tree harvested is part of a regenerative cycle. By choosing responsibly sourced timber, we reduce environmental impact while providing durable, high-quality products.

The Bigger Picture: Why It Matters

By choosing Madera’s sustainably sourced hardwood poles, customers support:
Carbon-positive forestry that actively removes CO₂ from the atmosphere
Responsible timber harvesting that prioritizes long-term ecological balance
Net-zero shipping practices that reduce environmental impact
Renewable supply chains that invest in the future of sustainable materials

Sustainability isn’t just part of our process—it’s the foundation of who we are. Through responsible sourcing, low-impact manufacturing, and carbon-neutral logistics, Madera is committed to supplying strong, durable, and environmentally friendly utility poles that stand the test of time.

    Our standards

Madera sources Eucalyptus Grandis from sustainably managed plantations, ensuring a continuous, renewable supply. Our carbon-positive forestry practices actively absorb more CO₂ than they emit, while responsible harvesting and reforestation keep our impact minimal. We back this with rigorous quality standards—see how our commitment stacks up.

  • Sustainable Shipping

We partner with industry leaders like Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, utilizing biofuel-powered vessels and net-zero shipping solutions. By prioritizing low-emission transport, we reduce our carbon footprint at every stage—ensuring sustainability doesn’t stop at the source but continues through to delivery.
